Elderly population in America

The older population–persons 65 years or older—numbered 39.6 million in 2009. They represented 12.9% of the U.S. population, about one in every eight Americans. By 2030, there will be about 72.1 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2000. People 65+ represented 12.4% of the population in the year 2000 but are expected to grow to be 19% of the population by 2030 (Administration on Aging, U.S Dept of Health and Human Services)

Based on the statistics listed above I am determined to identify tools and resources to help elderly individuals and their caregivers lead healthy and productive lives.  Most often information is not readily available at one’s disposal on the web and found by referrals through home care services, health practitioners and surgical equipment manufacturers. However, this information is not centralized and the services and products offered sometimes may not always offer a solution and benefit based on the condition and need.  This site will provide centralized resources on the tools, products, and services that are available to help the elderly.
